Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a technique used to treat a variety of conditions, by stimulating nerves and muscles within the skin producing a variety of effects. It increases the body’s release of natural pain killers – endorphin and serotonin – in the pain pathways of both the spinal cord and brain.

Acupuncture treatments involve inserting fine needles through the skin which are then left in position for around 20 minutes, sometimes longer depending on the condition. The number of needles required will vary on the individuals’ problem. Each client will be assessed and their treatment tailored to them.

What should I wear?
Wear loose clothing that can be rolled up to expose an area. When acupuncturing some areas of the body clothing may have to be removed, you will be left in privacy to do so and towels are provided.

Are there side effects to acupuncture?
You may experience some tiredness and/or stiffness for a couple of days after treatment, this will go quickly.

Do you reuse needles?
No, I only use disposable needles that are used once and then put straight in a sharps bin for professional disposal.

Is it painful?
Very rarely will a patient mention feeling any pain after a needle is inserted if so it will be removed and replaced. Points around the hands and feet can sometimes be sharp, but the sensation is usually brief.

How many treatments will I need?
This will depend on the clients’ problem, how bad it is and the length of time they have had it. Treatments are spread a week apart unless the pain is so bad then the gap will be shorter.
